The Social Affairs Department of the AStA Mainz takes care of the allocation of loans and grants to students. By filling out the application (and attachment) you will receive the financial support for your studies that you need.
Each semester we offer general counseling and an information fair on student financing.
In addition to this social counseling, you can also get general legal counseling - each free of charge - specific tenancy law counseling, and initial labor law counseling.
In addition, the AStA International department provides you with advice on immigration and family law.
The AStA is the student representative body at the University of Mainz. The aid fund gets its money from the semester fee and awards grants and loans in financial emergencies. Every student pays 2€ from the semester fee into the fund. The allocation is made according to the allocation regulations. The fund is administered by the social affairs officers of the AStA. They are elected by the student parliament and work on a voluntary basis.
Information on student financing in general can be found here.
Answers to general questions about BAföG, jobs, social security and much more in the Corona crisis can be found here.
Info about the information fair on student financing can be found here.
Students of the University of Mainz and the ISSK can apply for interest-free loans and grants in case of financial hardship, e.g. for semester fees, rent and health insurance. Even if you have lost your job in the current situation or have financial problems in some other way, you can apply to us. An emergency situation is not your fault if it has arisen through no fault of your own and you are unable to resolve it on your own.
Loans are always granted if it is foreseeable that you will be able to repay the amount within the next year. Otherwise, grants are awarded and do not have to be repaid.
If you are unsure, we can advise you in a consultation hour.
In addition to an application to the AB Social Affairs, the last semester fee can be refunded on a pro-rata basis if the income was low in the last three months. Such an application is processed by the AB Transport. More information under Semester ticket subsidy
